Across the Speed River from the Alan Mill was the Alan Mill distillery. It was on the former site of the distillery that the Taylor-Forbes Company and later the W.C. Wood Company was constructed.

The lot where Gilson Manufacturing once stood on York Road. Across the lot, you can see Owens Corning constructed in 1951 by Fibreglas Canada and one of the few large scale industrial features still operating in the Ward.
